Today is blog action day, and so everybody who wanted to could sign up to do a post about the environment today. Since I don’t feel like I have anything to say that hasn’t already been said, I thought I’d do a post about an eco-friendly Halloween costume idea: Mother nature!
Here’s the basic idea:
I think that this is a good costume idea because (a) it hasn’t been overdone, (b) it can be homemade, and (c) it can be made in an eco-friendly manner.
For the basic dress, I think I’d probably just make something like this McCalls pattern, but I can go get the material at the Salvation Army, or see if they have any dresses that would be appropriate. Or I can grab a couple dresses for their fabric and remake them into this dress. Then I just have to add leaves, flowers, and trim. The leaves can come from outside (I’ll probably do the wax thing again to keep them from going bad), and flowers can be made pretty easily with a little fabric. Salvation Army again anyone? Plus, I already have a lot of the stuff it would take to make this outfit.
So there you have it, a costume that uses elements that already exist rather than buying new fabric or new trimming! And it’s mother nature, and what’s more eco-friendly than that?
Take that blog day, I totally won!
