Well, April definitely brought its share of showers, and as a result, we are finally seeing flowers out here! Which makes me very excited, because I’ve never really seen Colorado when it’s green. Turns out it’s pretty, whoda thunk?
Shockingly enough, that got me to thinking – what creative things can be done with flowers? Sure, a pretty tablescape is always a good choice. Check out the one below from Country Living:

But there are other things to do with flowers as well. Like arranging the flowers in a unique way:

Or you can use them in a shadow box. The picture below has shadow box vases that let you put flowers on the wall, but you could also get silk flowers and fill up a shadow box table. That would work especially well with large, ruffly flowers like peonies, or geometrically interesting flowers like dahlias or mums.

And I have to say that I love wreaths. In the fall and winter, they’re beautiful reminders of green and warmth, but in spring they can be really bright and exuberant (just PLEASE no dried flower wreaths? Unless you’ve got a really good one, I have yet to see a wreath made of dried flowers that impresses me. If you can’t use live flowers, use silk ones, not dead ones)!

If you’re like me and don’t really have a kitchen table that lends itself to being decorated (our apartment is really small and has this weird breakfast bar, so half of our table is under the bar – I know, weird, but I can’t figure out a better way), maybe using tall narrow floral arrangements would be a better option. They could be used on consoles, mantels, even to flank the TV (because we all know how much time we spend watching TV). I think these topiaries are too cute:

Finally, if you have absolutely no surfaces available on which to display all the pretty flowers, you could try to make flower cones and hang them on door knobs – fresh flowers all over the place, what more can you ask for!?

Is there something else that you like to do with flowers? Are you a traditionalist who likes flowers in pretty arrangements in various holders, or do you like to put flowers where nobody will expect to see them? Either way, I think we can all agree that it’s good to have fresh flowers back!
