Ooooh, but I am excited for today’s Wedding Wednesday. Why? Because it’s French! AND I figured out that “Wedding Wednesdays” is still alliterative once it’s been translated!! Seriously, life doesn’t get too much more exciting than that, non? (by the way, that’s not a typo, that’s actually how the French spell “no” – I promise)
Aaaanyways. Back to Wedding Wednesday. I love French style. So. much. Je. L’adore. It even makes me want to add extra punctuation! But my concern with “French style” is that it has been slowly corrupted over the years. Now, before I start throwing any stones, let me be the first to admit that I was waaaay into the shabby chic phase. I begged my mom to have my room stenciled to look like a garden (and like any good mother, she agreed), I love distressed furniture, and ruffles? Fuhgedabotit. But French style has evolved so far beyond that point that calling that style “French” is akin to calling Victorian architecture “modern.” Non, mes amis, laisse-moi explique (let me explain). French style is reflective of a French lifestyle – and the French love to live. They prefer quality over quantity, always show a little leg when appropriate (and cover up when inappropriate), stop to smell the roses/perfume/fresh bread, and never forget that when an affair is black tie, one must always show up with a black tie. So here, today, is a truly French styled board: chic, simple, decadent, sexy, and (and this is key) totally overshadowed by the people in attendance.
A bientot mes amis, I promise I’ll speak more English tomorrow!
