Exploring the Wild West

On Friday I ended up having the day off, and with Monday to take off as well, Marty and I decided to take an impromptu camping trip to Wyoming.  It was an absolute blast!  We stayed in Thunder Basin National Grassland and Medicine Bow Routt National Forest.  Both places had stunning views and we barely saw ten people the entire time we were there.

First, the drive up was full of beautiful scenery.  We found a whole bunch of antelopes, as well as some abandoned homesteads.  Here’s a couple pics to show you how beautiful Wyoming can be, even more so because it has areas that are entirely devoid of human life.

The night we got there we got a beautiful sunset and, later, a mostly clear sky for stargazing.  I have never seen as much of the Milky Way as I did that night – and the moon actually woke us up later that night because it was so bright we could see it through the tent.

We also got to drive around on dirt roads and see some beautiful rock formations.

And we got to see lots of sheep, cattle, horses, antelopes, prairie dogs, etc.

All in all, it was a beautiful trip into the west to celebrate Americana on the 4th of July weekend.  I hope yours was just as good!

Gorgeous photos! I especially like the one with the trees (are they cottonwoods?) and the two with the windmill.

It looks like it was a fun time. :)

I actually have no idea what kind of trees they are, but everybody keeps saying that cottonwoods are prevalent there, so I guess they are. Also, your son has apparently learned your photography skills because the tree picture and the tall windmill picture are the only ones I took.
